Tina: How would you describe your personal style?
Ainsley: My style very much mirrors who I am, very beach-y, European, a bit Rock and Roll, and a little all over the place. I’m Irish so I have amassed an excessive amount of hand-knit sweaters.
T: Do you have any go to designers or shops that you frequent? Are you into finding vintage or collect hand me downs?
A: I am doing my best to avoid fast fashion, and there are so many brands that are doing amazing things for both the environment and fashion. Right now I am exploring vintage clothing shops in whatever city I am in, Faherty, Bode, and Frietag for a good bag or wallet.
T: What's your go-to skate boarding outfit? I’d love to say that I wear pants when skating, but the scars on my legs say otherwise. I am usually in comfortable jean shorts (difficult but possible to find), a vintage tee and I am always in Vans. Since I have my right foot in front (I skate goofy), all of my Vans have massive holes on the right side which is a good conversation starter.
T: How has your style evolved? Who/what inspires it - are there any iconic artists that influence you?
A: I’d like to think my style always has a base in who I am, but it also evolves as I grow and experience new places, meet new people, I listen to new music, etc. I spent a lot of time in France over the last few years and I fell in love with their classic, simple yet elegant, sort of effortless style. Also, as climate change became a much more pressing issue over my lifetime, I do my best to learn about and support more eco-fashion and fair trade brands.
T: Describe the look/vibe for your "Way To Easy" video? And the process as well....
A: “Way Too Easy” is the first video in a series of videos which connect in their storylines, so we had to pick something that I could use for several videos, and that made a statement. Way Too Easy picks up when I had just sort of run away from the music industry scene, and we wanted something that intentionally made me look very LA, very high fashion, so that se could evolve me out of that “boss look”. The white suit I wear is from Rag and Bone. We have several copies of it for future videos, so you’ll definitely see it again. In the second half of the video the director, Zane, wanted a moment where I start to evolve back towards “me”, so we picked a classic white tee/jeans look which is something you’d catch me in most instances day to day.
T:Is there a style trend you regret participating in?
A:No regrets. Unless you count tattoos. Tattoos have become more popular than not having tattoos, which I find funny. I’ve got sucked into way too many “late night with friends why not get a tattoo nights” and now I have a peach on my ankle in honor of Call Me By Your Name, and Timothée Chalamet’s character. If you know, you know.
T: As far as your style hair / makeup when performing, what do you go for that makes you feel most like yourself and confident?
A: When I am performing I’m all about being myself, because I want my shows to be a place where people to come and feel safe and loved and have a good time. I love simple make up, or sometimes, all natural. I also have curly hair, which I was told many times over my teens to straiten in order to get the polished pop look. So now that I don’t have those voices in my ear, I love letting my curls flow and do their thing. They have a mind of their own, and I know better than to get in their way.
